Shiatsu
Shiatsu therapy is a specifically Japanese contribution to holistic health care and has developed from the 3,500-year-old wisdom of oriental medicine. It is based on the same principles as acupuncture, although no needles are used. It also incorporates the modern Western sciences of anatomy, physiology and pathology. It combines massage, stretching and mobilisation techniques to promote balance and strengthen the body's energy.
Shiatsu is a technique that applies stable pressure to the meridians to release energy blockages, disperse excess energy and strengthen energy weaknesses. The pressure is usually applied with fingers, thumbs, hands and elbows centred from the body's core. This manual influence helps balance and harmonise the body's energy flow, positively affecting the individual's overall life energy.
Common complaints that can be treated well with Shiatsu are:
-
Muscle and joint complaints of the neck, back, pelvis, shoulders and limbs
-
Stress, sleep disorders, emotional instability and other psychological complaints
-
Fatigue, reduced resistance, burnout
-
Headaches/migraines
-
Problems related to menstruation, pregnancy and menopause
